　　1976年，阿尔伯特·斯帕贾利由于策划、组织和实施了对尼斯一家银行的盗窃而被捕。这名“世纪大盗”从初审法官的办公室逃走后，数年间一次又一次从抓捕他的警察手指间溜掉。他还在南美洲接受记者采访，拍摄了一系列滑稽照片。

　　新闻报道记者凡桑得到机会在南美洲的电影下载一个城市里与阿尔伯特·斯帕贾利接近，这期间他发现这名江洋大盗是一个“矛盾组合体”，身无分文却又很慷慨，身上充满幽默细胞，在警察的追捕下有些“伟大的失败者”的意味。
